Summer Newsletter 2017

March 2017

Hello my Quilting Friends.
I do hope you all enjoyed the holidays and did spoil yourselves with some" me" time. I certainly had a lovely time with our overseas relatives and we were fortunate to have wonderful sunny days here in Northland.

Over the years I have been asked about classes I teach that are available for those ladies who do not belong to a particular group. Finally I have got my act together  I have booked the St Johns church hall in Northcote Auckland on the 6th May 2017. I will be teaching my Titivate your Stash class. This class covers stamping , stencilling monoprinting with a Gelli plate and foiling. The numbers are limited to 10 and the cost will be $50.00 with an additional materials fee of $8.00. This is a great way to learn new techniques while  playing with fabric and paint. Bookings will close 15th April 2017.

I attended the Craft and Hobby Trade show in the US late January and have come home with one or two exciting products. There are still a few to arrive over the next couple of months so will save those for the next newsletter. There was a big focus with Faber Castell Gelatos being used on fabric. I tested using some of my stencils. As you can see very little change. However not sure if I would use them on a quilt which will have constant washing. Also the Gold I used in the centre flower reduced in colour noticeably.

 Before washing.

After leaving for a day, heat setting with a hot iron. Then washed with hand soap and dried.

There were lovely new stencils from The Crafters Workshop Check out those that have arrived and been listed.I have a number of them in both the 6" X 6" and the 12" x 12"

Art Foamies are now available in New Zealand. These are wonderful foam stamps from Canada that are very popular all around the world. There are a number of mixed media artists designing new stamps regularly . I have attached a link to a video by Julie Fei Fan Balzer showing how they are used. Check here. This weekend I have been having a play . I currently have 16 Art Foamies designs but will increase the range over the next couple of months. What do you think?

Colorbox Crafters Ink are now available in the Cats eye size.It is dramatic pigment ink in colors with a kick! It is permanent on fabric when heat set. Great with stencils and stamps.

I have added a couple of new sub categories to the site to make it easier for you to go straight to the area you are interested in checking out. They are Mixed Media and Videos these categories both come within the Surface Design area. I hope you enjoy watching the videos I have included, they are demonstrations of some products listed on the site. More will be added as they become available.

Started with the Gelli printed fabrics added a batik or two or three.

While tidying up my warehouse I came across some acrylic templates that were just itching to be used. With some of my blue Gelli printed fabrics I created the pinwheel blocks, added a lovely pale blue border on each side. But looking at it finished I thought it really needed something. Sooooo, used stencils and Gelatos to add the spots and circles. Love it and now I have a new table mat that matches my new lounge suite.

I have ten sets of these templates to giveaway so will add them to the first ten orders I receive before the 15th of April.

Remember how much I love working with Squedges. What do you think of this quilt? I have used the free pattern included with the 30 Degree squedge then appliqued it to a square.

With the increase in postage charges from the US I will be reviewing the price of my tools with future shipments, however until the 31st March I have reduced the 30 Degree Squedges to $25.00. There are a limited number available so if you were thinking of purchasing . Now is the time.

Had fun using different stitches. I used Bo Nash to tack the circles in place before stitching. This keeps the quilt nice and soft.

Voila !  the finished quilt.
